The BKA Convention in 2010 will take place over the weekend of 10th to 12th September, again at the Holiday Inn, Markyate (AKA Luton South). This will be the third and last Convention to be organised by the West London Group.

For 2010 we have two excellent guest speakers. Ruud Wildekamp is no stranger to the BKA having been a regular and much enjoyed speaker at past Conventions over many years. Our second guest speaker is Jouke van der Zee who perhaps is not so well known to Killifish enthusiasts but nevertheless has many years experience with Killifish, and a depth of knowledge second to none on the Killifish of Congo. Up to now Jouke has resisted all attempts to persuade him to share this knowledge in presentations at Conventions around the world, (except once at the KFN Convention in 2007), so we are honoured that he has now agreed to come to Markyate next year.

Jouke's presentation will obviously be on Congo and will be in two parts.
The first will deal with the history and zoogeography of the Congo basin, the distribution of all groups, and not yet described new species of Lampeyes and Epiplatys.
The second will concentrate on Aphyosemion and discuss the species groups present in the Congo basin, the Elegans group, the many undescribed species in the Tervuren Museum collection and new species complex in the Inkisi tributary.

I have seen an earlier version of this presentation at the KFN Convention in 2007 and I can assure everyone with an interest in Killifish that it is a presentation not to be missed.

Ruud Wildekamp will be making two presentations. One will be on the Genus for which he is most well known around the World i.e. Nothobranchius. In this presentation he will take an overview of the genus and its species groups.
Ruud's other presentation will be on Fundulopanchax and related species, where again he will take an overview of the various genera. Perhaps it is true to say that there may be one or two surprises in this presentation.

All-in-all this will be a Convention not to be missed so make a note now in next years Diary!
