In 2026 the Portuguese Killifish Association (APK) will hold its 25th International Convention at the Hotel dos Cavaleiros in Torres Novas.

The organisation is counting on the collaboration and presence of all APK members and friends, sister associations and official sponsors, and is certain that between October 16th and 18th another killifish celebration will take place.

Note – Adrianichthys and Oryzias are included in this group, but only for display purposes.

The fish exhibited become property of the APK.

Adult fish will be judged in pairs (two specimens in the case of hermaphrodites) or trios.

Breeding groups will be judged in groups of six (3 pairs or 2 trios – 2 males and 4 females).

Three prizes will be awarded for each group.

A prize will be awarded for the Best Exhibit in the show, a prize for the best Epiplatys annulatus, and a prize for the largest number of entries in the competition.

Fish to be exhibited must be pre-registered by Tuesday, October 13, at 12:00 p.m., and must be delivered by Saturday, October 17, at 10:00 a.m. Pre-registration should be sent to the email address: convencao@apk.pt.

PHOTO COMPETITION                                                                   

All photographs for the exhibition and competition must be sent as digital files, even if they were not originally taken with a digital camera, i.e. even if they were scanned from film negatives, slides or prints.

All photos will be limited to images of killifish and will be divided and classified in to three categories:

• Portrait – (image of the whole fish in the photo)
• Action – (image of the fish spawning, fighting or attacking food)
• Free or artistic – (giving freedom of expression and creativity to the photo).

Each participant may submit a maximum of 15 photos (5 for each category). Documents submitted will be deemed to become the property of the APK.

Entries must be sent by e-mail, in the form of attached files, to the convention organisers at convencao@apk.pt by 4th October 2026.
